Many times we are driving on the highway, completely oblivious to all of the potential hazardous debris that is hanging out on the sidelines just waiting to fly up and make contact with our vehicle’s glass. Just when you flip the radio on you see it, and smack! A rock hits your windshield. After you curse about the unfortunate nature of your situation, you then begin to ponder the question that all people faced with this situation ponder, “Can I just fix the chip? Or do I have to have the entire thing replaced?” That’s what we are here to talk to you about.
A vehicle glass repair is considered a restoration to the structural integrity of the vehicle’s glass.
A vehicle glass replacement is considered a restoration to the structural integrity of the vehicle glass as well as the cosmetic appearance.
1) Is the vehicle glass damage in your line of sight?
Your line of sight is defined as an 8.5 inch by 11 inch, standard sheet of paper placed on the windshield, directly in the line of sight that you have from sitting in the driver’s seat. If there is anything in this area, this would be considered a replacement.
2) Is the glass damage smaller than the size of a dollar bill?
In most situations, if the damage is smaller than a dollar bill it can be repaired.
3) Is the glass damage larger than the size of a dollar bill?
If the glass damage is larger than a dollar bill, then a replacement is needed.
4) Are you concerned about the cosmetic appearance of your vehicle?
A repair can restore the structural integrity of your vehicle’s glass, but it is by no means a perfect cosmetic fix, if you are someone who cares about the overall cosmetic appearance of your vehicle, then a replacement is in order.
It’s important to remember that as the customer we want whatever helps you to feel safe and happy with the overall appearance of your vehicle.
